Canberra Shopping

Canberra has all the typical shops you will find in every big city but Canberra is getting more and more into handmade and quirky shopping. Right up my alley. Today Tassy and I went to the Handmade Markets which are on every three months or so, and getting bigger and bigger every time! Since it's on the TOTAL opposite side of town from us I decided to take the opportunity to visit a shop called Little Owl in Civic that my friend had told me about. It was a gorgeous tiny little shop. So many gorgeous little things. One thing that REALLY annoys me tho is when things don't have price tags. I HATE that! I only asked the price of a few things and ended up buying two things. I probably would have bought more if I didn't have to keep asking for prices... Then we walked back to the car and a shop called Unit Concepts which caught my eye. So we went in to check it out... and the shop just kept going on and on and on! lol. It was like the TARDIS. I got a few things in there...

While I'm talking about gorgeous shops I also have to mention The Style Emporium (also on the complete opposite side of town to me!). I always come away from that shop with quite a few things. They have gorgeous cake decorating accessories too and the only place I've seen Washi Tape for sale in Canberra. And there's also Shop Handmade - the retail shop run by the people who run the Handmade Markets. We went there with mum on her recent visit and it was such a gorgeous shop. I think they are constantly renewing their stock with new local goodies.

Then on to the Handmade Markets. I always manage to buy a few things there... this time it was mainly cards which I will frame and food. We bought cupcakes and more cupcakes and some chocolates and for lunch we had Gozleme. Huh? I'd never heard of it either, even tho I love Turkish food. It was like a cross between a crepe and very thin bread. Maybe even pastry, with cheese and spinach in it and it was soooo good!! And made fresh to order. I love that! We also had Borek which was kind of similar but rolled into a cigar shape and crispy.

OK so here are some of the things I bought today. Aren't these baby socks the cutest ever! The socks and the Momiji stickers were from Little Owl. The plate and candle holder were from Unit Concepts and the cards and chockies from the markets.

Then on the way home we called into the Fyshwick Markets for some fresh ravioli, tortellini and gnocchi which we'll cook up for dinner. I LOVE fresh pasta. We also had a churros which was awesome and very naughty... is it just churro if it's only one?
