Movie Reviews

I've been watching lots of movies lately so I'll share my opinions! Some have been around for a while so let me know what you thought if you've seen them!

Madagascar 2
We saw it at the cinema and for the first time in my life I actually nodded off at the movies! I woke up instantly but it happened several times! And it wasn't cos the movie was no good - I liked it almost as much as the first. I don't know why I was so tired!

The Spiderwick Chronicles
Tassy and I loved this kids movie. There are one or two scary looking creatures but Tassy's OK with them. She's always been good with understanding what's real and what's pretend. We liked the story and the special effects were great. This movie was good fun. :)

The Devil Wears Prada
It was pretty predictable but I enjoyed it. I liked how Meryl Streep's character wasn't so predictable in the end - they didn't go for a typical Hollywood cliche. And I loved checking out all the clothes. :)

Burn After Reading
Dave and I both loved this. Brad Pitt was priceless - so believable! It was quirky and we LOLed a few times. As my mum says "oh what a tangled web we weave...". Totally recommend this one! At the same time, I have friends who didn't like it.

No Country For Old Men
Written and directed by the Coen brothers - same as Burn After Reading. I only wanted to see it cos it won the Best Picture Oscar. Not my kinda movie. Can't say I enjoyed it.

The Prestige
With Hugh Jackman and Christian Bale. I watched this with mum and dad and we really enjoyed it. The more I thought about it afterwards, the more I liked it. I love the ending. There were some good twists and I love a good twist!

Derailed
With Clive Owen (he was so sexy in Closer!) and Jennifer Aniston. Another "oh what a tangled web we weave...". I guessed the twist but I still enjoyed it.

Children of Men
Another Clive Owen one (plus Michael Caine and Julianne Moore). Set a few years in the future and everyone is infertile... well almost everyone. I thought the plot sounded interesting but the movie wasn't so interesting.

Around the World in 80 Days
We bought the DVD recently and then watched it just a few hours before the movie was on TV, lol. How could this movie be "the biggest independently released flop in film history with a box office loss of around $80 million"???! We LOVED it! We laughed a lot. And I'm a Jules Verne fan. :)

Flawless
Michael Caine and Demi Moore stealing diamonds. Not bad. As I'm getting older (or maybe as HE's getting older) I'm liking Michael Caine more and more.

Quench
Really bad "modern Gothic tragedy". Well the story was OK but the acting was so bad! SOOOOOO bad... All of it!! You've probably never heard of this movie and there's a good reason why!!

Hancock
With Will Smith and Charlize Theron. What the? I didn't like this at all!

The Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants 2
If you liked the first one you'll like this one just as much. A feelgood girly friendship movie. :)

Soooooo what did you think?

My gosh, what kind of time wrinkle have you been in, being able to watch all those movies lately?! You must have been doing nothing else!
The only 2 I have seen on your list are The Spiderwick Cronicles and The Devil Wears Prada (and I had even read the book of that first!) I liked the Spiderwick Crons, it was a pretty good kids/tweens movie. I am so proud of Tassy, not being scared of movie Characters. I mean, I pretty much get turned off watching the Dark Crystal cos of the scary muppets on the cover and yet she goes for it!! And the Devil Wears Prada I saw so long ago I hardly remember, but I'm pretty sure I liked it too. I don't remember not liking it!
Will and I saw Bolt at the movies the other day. It was either that or Benjamin Button and after I heard someone describe it as a cross between some movie (I think it was The Notebook) and Titanic I struck it off my list. I liked Bolt though. I am a total sucker for Animated Film (you may have guessed seeing as no normal 26yo would go see Bolt at 9:30 on a Saturday night) and I love the cute characters in this one. Cute story, cute movie, Will even laughed a lot during it too. I have come to realise, however, that we are SO EASY TO PLEASE when it comes to movies. We usually like everything we go to see, and end up loving some unusual ones we catch on DVD too (Traitor and Taken being the latest two. I recommend them both.) The bucket of Pop Corn we got at Bolt was so big I could bury my whole head in it. That was the highlight of the pre-movie entertainment.
Glad you have enjoyed most of your movies! That goth one I was like "Never heard of that" and when I kept reading your comment, I worked out why!

OOoh I haven't seen many of these! I loved Burn After Reading - I love all Coen brothers though. (Having said that I haven't seen their big one - No COuntry for Old Men - yet!). Matthew loves Hancock. I thought it was OK. I just saw The Dark Knight last night. And I saw Benjamin Button over Christmas - will discuss when I see you!!! I'll call you soon. M xx

BTW Charlotte - Benjamin Button is much better than Titanic! I liked the Notebook much better than it though. But I think that's because I have a lady crush on Rachel McAdams. And the guy she was with was pretty cute too.
